National Institute of Chemistry

The National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) is a scientifically excellent, established, and breakthrough research institution based in Europe. With cutting-edge research, NIC enriches the global treasury of knowledge by solving the most pressing challenges facing society including health, sustainable energy, climate change, a circular economy, and safe food.

Their research goals push the boundaries of science and create new values, successfully transferring knowledge to industry and, in the long term, support the role of science in the development of society.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT

In the REVEAL project, NIC is studying the flexibility and opportunities of using Al as a fuel and is responsible for market analysis of excess electricity, as excess electricity shares a high potential for low-cost seasonal energy storage.

NIC's main responsibility is the development of high temperature >200 °C Aluminum to energy reactor. In such a reactor, Aluminum as a fuel reacts with steam at high pressure. NIC is studying the influence of temperature, pressure, and granule size on the reaction kinetics. In the next step, NIC will be involved in 4kW prototype development.
